The Seminole Chamber of Commerce highlights upcoming events in Seminole and the Tampa Bay area.

Friday (May 12): The General Federation of Women’s Clubs – Seminole Junior Woman’s Club is hosting its third annual purse auction to benefit children and veterans in the community. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event begin at 7 p.m. at Lake Seminole Square, 8333 Seminole Blvd. Admission is free and open to the public.

Money raised during this live auction of new and gently used purses will help support the SJWC’s “Share Our Spirit” food drive, items for local vets, and much more. Cash and checks will be accepted for purses purchased at the auction. Refreshments will be provided. The SJWC is collecting gently used purses from community members for the event. May 20:  Hurricane Seminar, 10:30 a.m. at the Seminole Community Library, 9200 113 St. N. Julie Phillips, a meteorologist with WFLA StormTeam8 and granddaughter of Seminole resident Dottie Phillips, will present an informative and expert look at hurricanes and tropical storms. Phillips is a highly respected authority in her field who has covered many significant weather events in the area. Also speaking will be Seminole Fire Rescue public affairs officer Brad Dykens who serves as the city’s community preparedness and life safety coordinator. He will share life safety and property saving tips that will help prepare you and your family for an emergency situation. May 20 and June 5: Benefits for My Hope Chest, a nonprofit formed in 2003 to help uninsured and under insured women undergo breast reconstruction after a mastectomy.

On May 20, the Tampa Men of Z, Tampa Bay’s premier “All Men’s” group of Zumba fitness instructors, will host a Latin dance-style fitness (like Zumba) event. It will kick off with a 1 1/2 hour AMAZING dance/fitness class that’s catered to all energy and experience levels. The fitness class will be followed by an after-party. It takes place at Harbour Island Athletic Club and Spa, 900 S Harbour Island Blvd., Tampa. Registration is at 1:30 p.m. The fitness class is from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The after-party is from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

On June 5, the Tampa Beer Run will benefit My Hope Chest. This fun 5K run/walk has beer stops every 0.75 mile on the course. Registration includes: the run or walk, beer on the course, a 16oz beer at the finish, a Tampa Beer Run t-shirt and beer glass, along with one amazing after-party and festival including music, food, and drinks. May 25: Kids Appreciation Day for elementary school age kids (last day of school party at Seminole City park) food, fun, games, entertainment from 3-5 p.m. Looking for sponsors and volunteers. Call Donna at (727) 392-3245.
